Arr. Lara G. Hoggard
TTBB Chorus with Full Orchestra or
Four Trumpets – Organ – Percussion or
Standard Brass Quintet – Organ – Percussion accompaniment

This arrangement was created in the 1980s by master teacher and conductor Dr. Lara G. Hoggard, who was for many years Director of Choral Activities at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, NC. The original setting was for SATB Chorus, 4 b-flat Trumpets, Organ and 2 Percussion. A full orchestral version of the work was created for use by the Dallas Symphony and Chorus some years following.

The original melody upon which this arrangement was part of a 1592 publication: Piæ Cantiones, and has often been included as part of Catholic liturgical observances since that time (especially during Advent).

In addition to the choral music and its accompaniment, the arranger created a very detailed set of instructions for the utilization of this piece as a processional – in church settings or in the concert hall – which are downloadable below.

This version of the arrangement represents a re-voicing of the original SATB version of this work, [RBM-005] for TTBB chorus. Both versions of the work are set in the same key and may be sung with either of the available accompaniments.

The full orchestral version of this piece has been commercially recorded by the Dallas Symphony Orchestra and Chorus on their 2000 release DALLAS CHRISTMAS GALA.
