Concordia RBM-106 SATB soloists and SATB chorus with various accompaniments This work was composed in 1993 for a reunion commemorating 25 years of choral music-making at Robert E. Lee High School in Midland, TX, where the composer was educated, and is fondly dedicated to the memory of Henry A. Sellers – choral director at this institution from 1969 to 1974. The poem, Concordia, was written specially for this occasion by a classmate of the composer – Geoffrey Paul Walker, who also shared experiences at this same west Texas high school – and comprises the following lines of poetry: CONCORDIA by Geoffrey Paul Walker Summon Concordia Give Breath to Life Clarion Ascending Concordia Rhythm of the blood Anthem of the marrow Shadow of the Spirit Shape of the Soul Cascade of flame Mist of the celestial Healing water fountain Concordia Summon Concordia Give Breath to Life Clarion Ascending Concordia Shimmering wind Quivering air Streaming sound Ringing Word Immediate eternity Impassioned epiphany Vibrant ecstasy Sing: Concordia Summon Concordia Give Breath to Life Clarion Ascending Concordia

The composition is laid out roughly in rondo form – ABACADA with Coda and, in keeping with the depth of imagery in the text, is romantically / lyrically conceived throughout.

This work was originally scored for SATB soloists, SATB chorus, brass quintet, 2 pianos, 4 percussion and string bass [RBM-202]. Subsequently, the composition was expanded to both full orchestral (rental only) and wind-ensemble (available for purchase) [RBM-215] accompaniments.
